Sand snipes were small, biting insects found in Po-Metru. They could be annoying creatures, often burrowing beneath Matoran armor and biting the organic protodermis underneath. Fortunately, they were easy to trap. Since they lived in the barren environment of Po-Metru, they were enthralled by the sight of liquid protodermis and would march headlong into any puddle and promptly drown. This odd behavior gave rise to the Matoran saying "foolish as a sand snipe."1
