The Great Cataclysm was the name given to the earthquake which occurred throughout the entire Matoran universe as a result of Mata Nui's succumbing to endless slumber. It caused massive destruction in Metru Nui, caused Voya Nui to split off from its continent, and shattered the Pit.1
