The sonic shields were a pair of weapons carried by Kohrak-Kal^{1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6} that gave it mastery over sound.⁷ They could change their rate of vibration almost instantly^{1, 2, 6}, forming a dense, solid barrier of sound that could repel most forms of attack.^{7, 1, 2, 8, 4, 5, 6} This barrier responded to blows with a sound so loud it could stun a Toa Nuva.^{3, 4, 5} The sonic shields could even create solid objects made of sound.^{7, 8} In attack mode, the sonic shields could emit bursts of sound that could deafen an opponent.^{1, 2, 6} If used at higher intensity, they could cause objects to vibrate until they shattered.^{7, 1, 8, 4, 5, 6} The sonic shields were detachable weapons, but they needed to be connected to Kohrak-Kal to work.^{9, 10, 11}

Since the Bahrag created Kohrak-Kal by mutating an ordinary Kohrak^{12, 13, 14, 15}, the sonic shields may have originally been ice shields. They were apparently destroyed when Kohrak-Kal succumbed to its own sonic power and disintegrated, leaving nothing but its krana-kal.^{16, 17, note 1}
