Waikiru were a walrus-like creature that dwelled on the shores of Ga-Metru. They were swift and agile in water but clumsy on land. They relied on their tusks to drive away predators, primarily Takea sharks.1, 2 On Mata Nui, Gali placed the species under her protection after a storm she summoned accidentally injured a number of Waikiru.1
Notes
The Waikiru was swift and agile in the water, but clumsy and slow-moving on land. Waikiru lived and fed in groups, using their sturdy tusks to drive away Takea and other aquatic predators. They were not dangerous if treated with care, but they were quick to react to threats by charging or swimming away.3
