As a Toa Metru, Vakama carried a powerful Kanoka disk launcher as his Toa tool.2, 3, 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 It was a larger, more decorative version of the disk launchers used by Matoran throughout Metru Nui.1 Vakama could channel his elemental power of fire through it, although he often transmitted it through his hands instead.9, 10 When the disk launcher was mounted on Vakama's back, it could serve as a flight pack.11, 6, 12 The flight pack function was powered by Vakama's elemental power13, 14 and triggered by thought.11
Vakama selected this tool from a compartment in the Toa Suva when he first became a Toa.1 When Vakama was mutated into a Toa Hordika, the disk launcher mutated into a pair of blazer claws. When Keetongu cured him, the disk launcher returned to its original form.CN During a fight over the Vahi, the Shadowed One's disintegration eyebeams damaged Vakama's disk launcher so badly that it could no longer function as a flight pack or disk launcher.15 After Vakama became a Turaga, the disk launcher was stored away, and it is unclear what ultimately became of it.16, 17 It did not become Vakama's firestaff, as that was his former mask-making tool.18
Notes
- This tool was a larger version of what Vakama had used in the past to play akilini. Vakama selected it because the familiarity of it made him feel more comfortable in his new Toa body. Matau poked fun at Vakama for picking something used in Matoran games.1
- This tool has been officially referred to as a disk launcher2, 7, and its flight pack function has also been referred to as a rocket pack6.
