Akamai was the name of the Toa Kaita formed by the merging of Tahu, Pohatu, and Onua in their Toa Mata forms. Akamai possessed those three Toa's elemental powers of fire, stone, and earth. He wore the Kanohi Aki, the Gold Mask of Valor, which gave him the powers of shielding, speed, and strength. The equivalent Toa Kaita Nuva was called Akamai Nuva.
