The climbing claws, also called Kodan climbing claws1, were a pair of claw-like weapons that served as Pohatu Nuva's Toa tools before he acquired his adaptive armor.2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 Pohatu used them to channel and focus his elemental power of stone.CN Pohatu could flex the claws open and closed, and they had a powerful grip.CN The claws could hold on to even the hardest rock1, helping Pohatu scale rocky peaks (such as those found near Po-Koro) and steep cliffs with ease.2, 3, 6, 8 Pohatu could also use them to grab and move large rocks.11 Pohatu could use the claws for melee combat12 or hurl them at opponents.13, 9, 10 Pohatu could cause them to bind shut around an opponent after throwing them.13 The claws could also be attached together to form the Kodan ball.2, 3, 5, 14, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12
Pohatu acquired the climbing claws when he was transformed by energized protodermis into a Toa Nuva. Since Pohatu did not have a Toa tool previously, it is not clear where the climbing claws came from. Artakha later replaced Pohatu's armor and climbing claws with adaptive armor and weaponry.15 It is unknown what became of the climbing claws after this; they were apparently left with Artakha.
