magma swords

The magma swords were a pair of bladed weapons that served as Tahu Nuva's Toa tools before he acquired his adaptive armor.^{1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14} Tahu used them to channel and focus his elemental power of fire.^{10, 6, 11} Tahu could use his power to heat the blades enough to melt rock.¹⁵ He could easily plunge the swords into solid rock and even use them for climbing vertical rock faces.^{15, 16} Tahu used his swords to cleave through rocks in order to keep the lava flowing in the hot world of the Mangai Volcano.⁹ Tahu could also plunge the swords into the ground and cause it to become molten lava.⁹ He could also cross the swords in front of himself to block attacks.⁶ Tahu could join the handles of the swords together to form a lava board, which he could use to surf quickly over lava flows.^{1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13}

Tahu acquired the magma swords when he was transformed by energized protodermis into a Toa Nuva. Presumably, Tahu's former fire sword was transformed by the energized protodermis into the magma swords.^CN Artakha later replaced Tahu's armor and magma swords with adaptive armor and weaponry.¹⁷ It is unknown what became of the magma swords after this; they were apparently left with Artakha.
