The fire sword1, 2, 3, 4, also called the sword of flames5, 6, 7, 8 or Sword of Fire9, was a flame-shaped sword that served as Tahu's Toa tool when he was a Toa Mata. Tahu used it to channel and focus his elemental power of fire. Tahu could make the blade burst into powerful flames that could melt even stone.1, 2 While surfing on lava in the realm of the Mangai Volcano, Tahu used the sword to cut through rocks5, 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, keeping lava moving towards the ocean.1, 2, 6, 7, 8 The sword was not made of protosteel.10
The fire sword was created by Artakha, and Tahu received it before his training on Daxia.11, 12 When Tahu was transformed by energized protodermis into a Toa Nuva, the fire sword presumably transformed into the magma swords. Later, when Tahu was devolved back into his Toa Mata form, his protosteel adaptive weapon changed from the rotating fire blade13 to the form of his original fire sword, in order to return to something he would be familiar with.14, 15, 16, 17 In this form, Tahu had a silver-colored guard around his sword hand. When Tahu put on the golden armor, he used the gold-colored guard included with it instead.18 Tahu presumably continued to use the fire sword on Spherus Magna, although it retained its adaptive ability and had the potential to change shape again.15
